Easter Crown

Bringing the Easter Bonnet into the 21st Century

The History

Ever wonder where the Easter Bonnet originated from? It stems from the Christian tradition of wearing brand new clothes after Lent. On Easter Sunday everyone used to get dressed and go to church in their brand new clothes symbolising Christ's resurrection. The phrase 'Sunday's Best', implies that every Sunday people would wear their best clothes to church. Well on Easter Sunday, this stepped up a notch and the women wore bonnets too. In Europe women used to wear flowers on their bonnets to represent Spring and new life.

I feel like Bonnets are a little over done. So we came up with something a little different but just as FUN and just as BRIGHT!

Pom-Pom Easter Crowns!

The colourful pom-poms represent the beautiful flowers we have been seeing blossoming as Spring emerges. But also, it reminded me of Christ's Crown of Thorns, this take is what comes later, it is what Easter is all about. Christ dies on the cross, crowned as the 'King of the Jews' with a ring of thorns. But it's ok, what comes next is the ending, or rather the beginning.

 LIFE!

He gave us life, and SO here is our take. A beautiful crown of psychedelic coloured pom-poms which if I don't say so myself, is just TOO darn cute.

What you will need:

  • Colourful thread
  • Pom-Pom makers - preferably small ones (Amazon or Hobbycraft will sell them)
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks for the glue gun
  • A thick alice band

Instructions:

  1. Make as many pom-poms as you can and trim them with the scissors.
  2. Once you have enough use your glue gun to stick them on to the alice band.

Watch the video links below if you don't know how to use a pom-pom maker or glue gun.

This is a really quick craft and the results are maximum. When I showed Patronus A her new Easter Crown she was so happy! We used lots of bright colours but it is up to you what colours you do. Perhaps you have a special outfit you want them to wear, why not colour co-ordinate?! Have fun with it.
