It’s almost Mother’s Day in the UK, just a few mere weeks. As father’s and children scramble and wrack their brains for something to buy their mother’s, may we humbly put forward a suggestion?

Colour with Mum!

I stumbled across this book a few weeks ago on a Facebook page I follow, a fellow mother mentioned it. Colour With Mum is a colouring book full of diverse and visually exciting pages to be coloured in. What makes it different to other colouring books however, is the fact that it is meant to be done with your Mum. The A3 book has a double spread with each side holding a different colouring page. One that is easier than the other which has more detailing for the adult. The pages are either laid out so you can sit side by side and colour, or you can sit opposite each other on some spreads.

It is a simple concept but it is so much more than that. Our lives as parents are so busy. There is always something to be doing, a long list to get through. I’ll be the first to admit I have told Little Feet A and B that I don’t have time to sit and play or read to them. This book is the perfect opportunity to carve out special time for you and your children, to just sit and be still with them. It gives you a moment of calm and quiet, a moment to connect and talk about life with them. It is a moment of mindfulness for both child and adult, at its centre it is a moment of connectedness. In a world of chaos and fast moving motions, it is a place of stillness and pause. What could be more precious than that.

I bought this book just before half term and it was the perfect thing to do with Little Feet A when Little Feet B took a nap. It meant Little Feet A and I had a moment of down time too, doing something we both enjoy - being creative. All the times we have done it together, I have felt that we have connected and it is has helped for the rest of the day. It was hard to have those moments when Daddy Big Feet was deployed.
